"Burek  je s mesom, sve ostalo su pite."
(by every Bosnian ever) :-)

Even-though spread across the Balkans this savory phyllo-pie is a Bosnian specialty. If you were ever in Bosnia you must have tried a Burek. They are sold in every bakery, on every corner across the country. There are many varieties of this pie and their name changes according to the filling inside (and your current geographical position).

Here are some of the most common ones:
Burek - filled with meat
Zeljanica - filled with spinach and cottage cheese
Sirnica - filled with cottage cheese, sour cream and eggs
Pita od jabuka - apples
and the list goes on....

We'll be doing couple of those here on bite&sip but let us start with meat!

Time needed: about 2 hours
Dough preparation and resting: about 1 hour
Baking time about 40 minutes

Bibimbap a la Quarantine

Bibimbap is a delicious traditional Korean rice dish. Traditionally it is a bowl of rice with a variety of toppings (sauteed vegetables - namul, korean hot pepper paste - gochujang, seasoned raw beef - yukhoe and an egg).
I was in a mood for something tasty and colorful. But since nowadays we don't just go out without good reason and I try to do all my groceries once every 10 days, I made this quarantine version of Bibimbap whit what I had at home.

Time needed: 30 minutes
Preparation about 15 minutes
Cooking time about 15 minutes

The first! - About us

Hello!

We are Hans and Marijo. Traveling and enjoying out free moments together since 2016. We are trying to keep a nice balance between "more local" and "far-away travels".

Since we are one Dutch living in the Netherlands (Hans) and one Croatian living in Austria (Marijo), quite a few of our travels are between those three countries and surroundings.

When ever, and where ever we travel one of the important to-do things is exploring the local cuisine. Trying new things, asking many questions and figuring out  how something delicious is prepared.

Once we get back home we do our best to recreate those dishes and keep the vacation feeling with us even longer. Sometimes those projects are quite simple. Other times its hard to even find all the necessary ingredients... And just to be honest: no matter how hard we try, sometimes we just cant get it close to the dish we tasted abroad. In that case, we just need to travel back again! :-)
